Secret Cake: A Tasty Kitchen Recipe

Can you ever have enough chocolate cake recipes? That's stupid question...right? Well, since we've got that cleared up, how about I share a really good chocolate cake I recently tried out.

It's called Secret Cake.

I have no idea why it's called that, but I do know I can't keep it a secret from you guys, because it's too good a recipe not to share the chocolate love. I found this cake recipe on Tasty Kitchen, and was immediately intrigued by the title, plus it had no picture with it.  How can you not be curious about a mysterious dish called Secret Cake, made all the more mysterious with no picture to put with the name.

The cake is really moist and fluffy, but the kicker for me was the icing. It was so satiny and smooth, and ultra rich...and was made even better with chopped walnuts folded in. It set up with a slight crackled glaze but stayed gooey and rich underneath. Chocolate heaven!

Have I peaked YOUR interest now? For the recipe and my full step-by-step post, head on over to Tasty Kitchen where you can grab the printable recipe too!

Ham & Cheese Potato Skins: A Tasty Kitchen Recipe

Follow Me on Pinterest

I don't know about you but sometimes a girl needs a good, salty snack. If you make it crispy and throw in some gooey, melty cheese...then you've got my attention!

I'm talking about potato skins folks. Is there any vegetable more versatile than the trusty ol' spud?

French fries, hash browns, mashed potatoes, smashed potatoes, baked, roasted, fried, grilled...okay, I think you get the idea. Potatoes are amaaaaaazing.  There's just something so comforting about a potato dish, any way you make it, that makes a not-so-good day seem a little bit better.

These potato skins are really easy to make and they taste so good. They'd make a great snack for your next football party, or throw in some scrambled eggs, add a side salad, and you've got yourself one delicious brunch! The best part? It's a super kid-friendly recipe! My six year old gobbled these right up...with his usual (small-lake-sized) side of ketchup. That kid loves his ketchup.

This potato skin recipe is another super yummy find from Tasty Kitchen, shared by TK member Dax Phillips. Now, head on over to the Tasty Kitchen Blog to check out my full step-by-step post, and you can grab the recipe while you're at it. Then after you make these, you can thank me when your taste buds do a happy dance. Enjoy!

Pumpkin Spice Hot Apple Cider: A Tasty Kitchen Post

I love winter - for about thirty days. During this time winter is magical and full of my favorite traditions that capture every sense.

Winter is for hot cocoa and fuzzy blankets. It's for taking fun treks in the snow that turn your nose red and your toes cold, so when you come home all you want to do is get warm and toasty in front of a fire. Winter smells like pine needles, old Christmas ornaments, and sugar cookies baking in the oven.

Yes, I'm known to wax poetic on occasion.

These things are why it's my favorite time of the year....for thirty days. After this, the cold get's really old and I'm ready for sunshine and warmth again.

One of my favorite ways to warm up on chilly days is a hot cup of deliciousness....like this Tasty Kitchen recipe for Pumpkin Spice Hot Apple Cider. Holy cow was this stuff good!

Cranberry Orange Bars: A Tasty Kitchen Recipe

Cranberry Orange Bars

Do you like cranberries? I think they're one of those love 'em or hate 'em foods. For me, I can't have a holiday meal without my precious cranberry sauce.

There's just something about the sweetness mixed with the tart, that makes each bite of turkey, stuffing, and whatever else you have piled on your plate, taste infinitely better.

In my humble opinion at least. I even sneak into the fridge to grab spoonfuls of the sauce - all on it's own. That's my relationship with cranberry sauce.

Anyway, enough about my love of sauce - the cranberry kind.

I also love cranberries in my desserts, and when I came across this Tasty Kitchen recipe for Cranberry Orange Bars, I just had to give them a try. I love how simple they are, and with just a few ingredients, you can have a great dessert to add to your holiday meal in no time. This also a great way to use up any leftover cranberry sauce you have from your turkey day meal!

You can snag the printable recipe and see my full post over on the Tasty Kitchen blog. So go check it out!

Chipotle Grilled Chicken Tacos with Pineapple Slaw

I've got a recipe to share today, one that will make your mouth get all drooly and your taste buds all tingly.

This is the kind of recipe that makes you get all excited over leftovers. Any dish that makes you happy about leftovers is a keeper in my book! The main star is a delicious smoky, chipotle marinaded chicken. Of course, it doesn't hurt when it's topped with a tropical pineapple slaw. Throw it all in a fresh corn tortilla and you've got dinner.

Suuuuuuey! Can you believe that's what my dad used to yell up the stairs at us kids when it was time to eat.  Apparently he had a pig farm in another life before I was born. Thanks Dad, it's every teenage girl's dream to be likened to a pig right before she's about to eat.

To grab this recipe head on over the Tasty Kitchen Blog, you can read the full post and get the handy-dandy printable too.

Grilled Peaches with Honey Ginger Cream Cheese Fluff

Grilled Peaches with Honey Ginger Cream Cheese Fluff
I've still got a ton of peaches left over from our peach picking trip, and I was really excited to use some of them in this delicious Tasty Kitchen recipe for Grilled Peaches with Honey Ginger Cream Cheese Fluff, submitted by Jessica of A Kitchen Addiction.

I'm not usually allowed near the grill. In our house, it is solely the property of my husband. Whenever I offer to grill something, I get a very quick, "No, that's o.k. I'll do it." I guess it's a man thing. He did however, graciously allow me a few minutes with his precious baby, so I could whip up these tasty grilled peaches.

I guess he figured I couldn't hurt anything in the 3 minutes it took to grill these.

They're filled with a super yummy spiced, honey cream cheese fluff, yep, the same stuff I used on my Patriotic Parfaits. This stuff is so versatile the possibilities are endless. Plus, I just like saying fluff.

Who doesn't love a dessert with fluff?

Savory Corn Crème Brulee - Tasty Kitchen Post

TK-Blog-Corn-Creme-Brulee-03-marked
Whew! I’m still unpacking boxes and getting the new house in order. It’s actually a bit chaotic since we’re also remodeling. Right now, my entire downstairs is a lovely subfloor, with a beautiful, light misting of dust that seems to perpetually cover everything.

Needless to say, I haven’t been in the kitchen much lately. Smile

I did have the forethought to make a few posts up ahead before we moved, since I knew I wouldn’t have easy access to my kitchen.

This recipe for Savory Corn Crème Brulee is another Tasty Kitchen recipe that I have found and loved. I love crème brulee, and the idea of a savory twist with a toasted parmesan crust really had me itching to try it out. This is a real winner, a perfect side dish to impress company.
As usual, you can find my full post over on the Tasty Kitchen Blog, where you can also snag the handy printable recipe.

Do you have a favorite vegetable? I do. I love Asparagus. Serve it to me any way, grilled, roasted, pureed in a soup...thrown across the room while I catch it like a seal. Yes, I am slightly weird. Yes, I love it that much.
With spring in full bloom, it's the perfect season to enjoy my favorite vegetable. So when I came across this Tasty Kitchen recipe for Skillet Asparagus Tart, my watering taste buds were begging me to make this dish. Homemade Hotdog Buns–A Tasty Kitchen Recipe

TK-Blog-Homemade-Hotdog-Buns-20-watermarked

I’ve got another great recipe for you here from Tasty Kitchen – Homemade Hotdog Buns! Now you may think, “Why would I make my own buns when I can get them for a buck at the store?” The answer is in the TASTE. These buns are so soft and chewy, melt-in-your-mouth delicious, yet sturdy at the same time. They will hold up to any kind of topping you want to use, or if you’re a purist, they’ll enhance and compliment the flavor of your hotdog so you’ll wonder why you ever used the store bought kind. I usually just pick away the excess bun to get to my hotdog, but not with these guys. They are a little work, but if you’re up for it they won’t disappoint you! You can even freeze the leftovers or use them for hoagie sandwiches.

You can see my full post and snag the recipe over at Tasty Kitchen.

Enjoy!

Lemon Blueberry Crunch Muffins– A Tasty Kitchen Recipe

Lemon Blueberry Crunch Muffins
I brought home a pint of tasty little blueberries the other day, and had a very specific purpose in mind for them. These Lemon Blueberry Crunch Muffins. Just the name of these tasty sweet treats has my taste buds watering, and the crunchy topping really pulled me in.

This is another great Tasty Kitchen recipe that didn’t fail to impress me. They are perfectly moist and delicate (the use of cake flour helps with this), and so packed full of blueberries it’s almost ridiculous….almost.  If that isn’t enough, they’re then dipped in lemon butter and rolled in a shameful amount of sugar. The regular granulated sugar gave a really pretty, delicate crunchy exterior. I’m sure using a coarser sanding sugar would make these a little more rustic looking, but just as delicious.

Vanilla Crumb Pie: Tasty Kitchen Recipe

TK-Blog---Vanilla-Crumb-Pie-
What do you like to do when you’re trapped in the house on a snow day? I’d like to say I spent countless hours cleaning and scrubbing my house, all while performing amazing super-mommy tasks.
I would be fibbing just the teensiest bit though.

Snow days are for searching the internet for new and delicious recipes to try, and for whipping up a recipe that uses scandalous amounts of butter and sugar…and if there’s even more butter and sugar dumped on top?
Like this? Even better.
TK-Blog---Vanilla-Crumb-Pie-
I’m talking about Vanilla Crumb Pie people. If you’ve never tried this pie, you’re missing out. The warm vanilla filling is similar to pecan pie (sans nuts) and then it’s covered in a sweet, buttery crumb topping.
This is another wonderful Tasty Kitchen recipe, submitted by Tonya of 4 Little Fergusons. Head on over to Tasty Kitchen to find this great recipe. Thanks Tonya for sharing this deliciousness!

Garlic Alfredo Sauce: Tasty Kitchen Guest Post

TK-BLog-Garlic-Alfredo
There is nothing better, in my humble opinion, than a plate full of creamy pasta. Marinara is a great sauce, but there’s something so deliciously sinful about Alfredo that I gleefully shove my guilt down deep. When I eat Alfredo, I tell myself I’ll worry about my hips tomorrow.

While I sit here and wax poetic about Alfredo sauce, I have a confession to make. I never make it at home. Maybe because, until now, I’ve never found a recipe that was as simple and delicious as this one from Tasty Kitchen. When I came across this recipe for Garlic Alfredo Sauce, I was immediately intrigued. With cream cheese, garlic and just a few other simple ingredients, this was definitely my kind of recipe.

This sauce is so creamy and rich, you’ll be eating spoonfuls before you even get to slather your pasta with it. I’m glad to say this Alfredo sauce will be a staple at my house from now on.

Spinach Lemon Orzo Soup: Tasty Kitchen Blog

Spinach Lemon Orzo Soup

I am a texture girl. I love texture in my clothes, my hair, and most importantly my food. I had the pleasure to come across a great recipe over at Tasty Kitchen, Spinach Lemon Orzo Soup, and I knew right away I had to make it. Namely because it had Orzo in it. Orzo falls into my “Food textures That I Love” category, and any recipe that calls for it has me game to try it.

If you’ve never tried orzo, you need to take your crazy self to the store and buy some right now.  What is orzo like you may say?  For me, it’s as if pasta and rice came together and had a delicious baby.  I can’t really say any more than that.

This soup was so good, with the bright flavor from the lemons and the comforting goodness of a (slightly spicy) chicken broth. You can find the recipe and my guest post for this recipe on the Tasty Kitchen Blog here.

Enjoy!
