Baked Cinnamon Apple Chips
January 10, 2013
Since we're 10 days into the new year and those New Year's resolutions are still underway, I thought I should share a tasty healthy snack alternative. Tired of carrot sticks and celery?
How about a bowlful (proportionately sized of course - sorry, no gallon sized containers), of sweet and crispy Baked Apple Chips? These tasty treats are tossed in a cinnamon-spice mixture, with just a hint of sweetness.
They're great on their own, but they get even better when dipped in a Honey Spice Cream Cheese Dip, like the one I made with these Grilled Peaches and these Patriotic Fruit Parfaits. Crunchy deliciousness + creamy goodness = the perfect afternoon snack. Yum.
Baked Cinnamon Apple Chips
Yield: 2 servings Printable Recipe
4 gala apples
1 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1/8 tsp salt
2 tbsp granulated sugar
Preheat oven to 200 F. Line a baking tray with parchment paper. In a small bowl combine the cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, salt, and sugar.
Cut the ends off of each apple. Using a mandolin or a sharp knife, slice the apple into very thin slices, about 1/8" inch to 1/16" inch. If you use a mandolin, make sure you use the protective holder that keeps you from slicing your fingers to shreds.
Dip the apple slices into the cinnamon mixture, and tap against the edge of the bowl to remove the excess. Coat both sides. Repeat until all of the apple slices have been evenly coated with the cinnamon mixture.
Arrange the slices on the baking sheet, place in the oven and bake for about 25-30 minutes. Flip the slices over and bake for another 30 minutes, or until the apples are a bit crispy. The apples will still be flexible when they come out, but will crisp up after a few minutes.
Enjoy!

I have been meaning to make apple chips for months now - thank you for the reminder (as I chomp away on my carrot sticks). I am an apple fiend and would love to have a new way of enjoying them!
Flavorful and healthy - can't get better!
I love make-at-home snacks like this. These look so good, Amber!
I'll have to save this recipe since this is tried and tested. This is absolute visual treat !! I am sure this must have tasted fabulous! http://cosmopolitancurrymania.blogspot.in/
Apples are one of my favorite foods. I can devour up to three a day (and even then I sometimes have to talk myself out of a fourth...). Chips are also another favorite food. Perfect!
What a fun snack! These would come in so handy during the 11PM-2AM window.
